What is Hypnosis

There are many misconceptions about hypnosis. Movies and series have misrepresented what hypnosis is – often exaggerating the effects of hypnosis, and what people do when they are hypnotized.

To put it into perspective, you can think of hypnosis in movies as a special effect – very powerful – but completely disconnected from reality.

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is the practice of going into a very deeply relaxed state, in order to connect with the subconscious mind. All our thinking and all our programming is located in the subconscious mind. So, it makes sense, that in order to change our thinking, we need to connect to the subconscious mind. Hypnosis is that connection.

Hypnosis is very similar to meditation – in fact, the brain wavelengths of hypnosis and meditation are identical! So, it’s not an unconscious state – merely a very deeply relaxed state!

What is Hypnotherapy?

You could think of hypnotherapy as a ‘branch’ of hypnosis. Hypnosis can be used to achieve many goals, for example, to stop smoking, or lose weight, or become a confident public speaker. And hypnosis can also be used as a form of therapy to resolve the past, overcome trauma, let go of negative emotions, and to find the roots of our problems.

So, hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to let go of the past, and shift into a powerful state of inner peace and joy, where you can start to experience life in a whole new wonderful way.  And the most beautiful thing about this is, that when you are able to connect to inner peace and joy, you will also start to experience success with manifesting abundance in all areas of your life.

How does Hypnotherapy Work?

The great news is that hypnotherapy is nothing like traditional therapy!

  • We don’t use talk therapy!
  • We don’t spend hours talking about the past!
  • We don’t rehash old painful memories!

Hypnotherapy is a rapid healing process – 6 sessions is all it takes to resolve trauma and set yourself up to manifest a beautiful life for yourself! 

Hypnotherapy is all about taking back control, so that you can be the Master of Your Mind, so that you can control your mind, instead of your mind and emotions controlling you!

Modern hypnosis techniques are utilized to shift the mind very quickly. It’s all about helping you to let go of all that old, outdated stuff and move on to happiness, inner peace and abundance.

Modern Hypnosis Techniques

Direct suggestion

A direct suggestion is a sentence which is structured in a particular way in hypnosis, to get a particular result.

So, a general direct suggestion might go something like this:

“I don’t know if perhaps today, or maybe tomorrow, you might start really looking forward to this whole new phase of life, where you free yourself from the past, so you can start experiencing a whole new way of life, filled with joy, happiness, confidence and a deep and lasting sense of inner peace.”

Visualization

Visualization is using your imagination to imagine seeing yourself in the future, looking and feeling so much better. This is a powerful way to give the subconscious mind a sense of direction – to that it knows what the goal is. This brings about not only a sense of excitement about the change, but also a sense of security in finding answers, moving forward, and being able to connect to the future in a much more positive way.

So, an example of visualization could be:

“Imagine seeing yourself in 3 months’ time – looking amazing – confident, happy, fulfilled and living your best life! Notice how calm and at ease you are – and the beautiful sense of inner peace which is so very deeply pleasing.”

Story telling & metaphor

Our mind is constantly analyzing things – and it does this in order to understand the world and make sense of the things that happen around us. It also records everything it hears – every single thing is recorded and analyzed. It records, it processes, it analyzes, and it draws conclusions. And it takes action on that conclusion. and so storytelling is a very modern and amazing way to shift the mind, because the subconscious mind will record the story and it will pull out the deeper meanings, and it will apply them to the way you think and the way you see life.

So, what storytelling does, is that it presents the mind with a different view of life, a different way of understanding the world around it. Because the stories all have deeper meanings – they are specifically structured to bring about that change we want to see in the mind. And they stories are very cleverly written, very cleverly structured to bring about that change in the way you think, and the way you see the world. It’s a very powerful way to shift the mind.

And these are not ordinary stories about you, or your life, or your problems – they are stories which are structured in a particular way, to bring about a particular result. And they work beautifully.

This is a very modern technique to assist with helping your mind to start to see the world in a different way, and to start to see yourself in a different way.

NLP techniques

This is a powerful technique to teach your mind to automatically switch from negative states such as anxiety, fear and anger – into complete calm and tranquility – in one second flat! Sounds like magic? It is!

This is a technique I teach to all my hypnotherapy clients, to help them have more control over their emotions. It’s brilliant for overcoming anxiety, fear, feeling overwhelmed, to disconnect from triggers, to let go of overthinking – and it’s wonderful for anger management.

This is actually called a ‘switch’ technique, because it trains the subconscious mind to ‘switch’ from negative states of mind, into calmness and tranquility.
