What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?

Perhaps I should begin by explaining the difference between hypnotherapy and hypnosis.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is the practice of going into a very deeply relaxed state, in order to connect with the subconscious mind. All our thinking and all our programming is located in the subconscious mind. So, it makes sense, that in order to change our thinking, we need to connect to the subconscious mind. Hypnosis is that connection.

Hypnosis is very similar to meditation - in fact, the brain wave-lengths of hypnosis and meditation are identical! So, it's not an unconscious state - merely a very deeply relaxed state!

What is hypnotherapy?

You could think of hypnotherapy is a 'branch' of hypnosis. Hypnosis can be used to achieve many goals, for example, to stop smoking, or lose weight, or become a confident public speaker. And hypnosis can also be used as a form of therapy to resolve the past, overcome trauma, let go of negative emotions, and to find the roots of our problems.

So, hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to let go of the past, and shift into a powerful state of inner peace and joy, where you can start to experience life in a while new wonderful way.  And the most beautiful thing about this is, that when you are able to connect to inner peace and joy, you will also start to experience success with manifesting abundance in all areas of your life.


How does trauma, negativity and fear have to do with manifesting abundance?

In order to manifest abundance, you need to be in control of your mind. But, when we are stuck in trauma, fear, anxiety, negative emotions and limiting thoughts, our lives are ruled by fear and distrust. The result is overthinking, fear and insecurity, poor self-image, self judgement, lack of trust, anger... to mention a few.

We find that we have little or no control over our emotions, and find ourselves easily triggered, emotionally unstable, and although many of us have grown accustomed to hiding our emotions - they bubble and boil under the surface. We see the world as a dark and threatening place and find ourselves blocked and out of control of our own lives and happiness.

In short - your mind and your emotions rule your world. And when you mind controls your world, you live in fear. And when you live in fear, you're never going to be able to manifest anything positive.

So, yes, part of the course is resolving trauma and letting go of the past, and it’s a step that cannot be skipped. It is vital to free yourself from the past and shift your mind into a powerful state of inner peace, joy and happiness. This is a powerful way to permanently resolve trauma and shift your life into a very positive space.

How does hypnotherapy work? The great news is that hypnotherapy is nothing like traditional therapy!

  • We don't use talk therapy!

  • We don't spend hours talking about the past!

  • We don't rehash old painful memories!

Direct suggestion

A direct suggestion is a sentence which is structured in a particular way in hypnosis, to get a particular result.

So, a general direct suggestion might go something like this:

I don't know if perhaps today, or maybe tomorrow, you might start really looking forward to this whole new phase of life, where you fee yourself from the past, so you can step into your authentic empowered self, and start feeling good about life, and good about yourself!

Visualization

Visualization is using your imagination to imagine seeing yourself in the future, looking and feeling so much better. This is a powerful way to give the subconscious mind a sense of direction - to that it knows what the goal is. This brings about not only a sense of excitement about the change, but also a sense of security in finding answers, moving forward, and being able to connect to the future in a much more positive way.

So, an example of visualization could be:

Imagine seeing yourself in 3 months' time - looking amazing - confident, happy, fulfilled and living your best life! Notice how calm and at ease you are - and the beautiful sense of inner peace which is deeply pleasing.

Story telling & metaphor

Our mind is constantly analyzing things - and it does this in order to understand the world and make sense of the things that happen around us. It also records everything it hears - every single thing is recorded and analyzed. It records, it processes, it analyzes, and it draws conclusions. And it takes action on that conclusion. and so storytelling is a very modern and amazing way to shift the mind, because the subconscious mind will record the story and it will pull out the deeper meanings, and it will apply them to the way you think and the way you see life.

So, what storytelling does, is that it presents the mind with a different view of life, a different way of understanding the world around it. Because the stories all have deeper meanings - they are specifically structured to bring about that change we want to see in the mind. And they stories are very cleverly written, very cleverly structured to bring about that change in the way you think, and the way you see the world. It's a very powerful way to shift the mind.

And these are not ordinary stories about you, or your life, or your problems - they are stories which are structured in a particular way, to bring about a particular result. And they work beautifully.

This is a very modern technique to assist with helping your mind to start to see the world in a different way, and to start to see yourself in a different way.

NLP techniques

This is a powerful technique to teach your mind to automatically switch from negative states such as anxiety, fear and anger - into complete calm and tranquility - in one second flat! Sounds like magic? It is!

This is a technique I teach to all my hypnotherapy clients, to help them have more control over their emotions. It's brilliant for overcoming anxiety, fear, feeling overwhelmed, to disconnect from triggers, to let go of overthinking - and it's wonderful for anger management.

This is actually called a 'switch' technique, because it trains the subconscious mind to 'switch' from negative states of mind, into calmness and tranquility.

Will I be able to drive afterwards?

Yes, absolutely. Hypnosis is very similar to meditation. In fact, the brain wavelengths of meditation and hypnosis are identical, and people can absolutely drive after meditation, and people can absolutely drive after hypnosis too. So yes, you can absolutely drive after hypnosis, and you can even go back to work!

Am I unconscious during hypnosis?

No - you are always in control. Hypnosis is not an unconscious state - it's merely a deeply relaxed state. A lot of my clients call it ‘Me Time” because it is so deeply relaxing.

How many sessions will I need?

Hypnotherapy works very quickly - you can expect great and lasting results within approximately 6 sessions. Each session builds on the last for great and lasting inner change.
